At SavvyBeast® we are dedicated to insuring that your dog's favorite treats are healthy and nutritious. We are proud of the quality (local and domestically sourced) ingredients that we use and we want you to know exactly what ingredients go into each and every bag of DogStars® gourmet dog treats. The following is a list of all ingredients used in the making of our extraordinary dog treats - nothing more, nothing less. Each and every treat is hand-made with love in our kitchen in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York.
We use organic chia flour as opposed to gluten-rich, grain-based flours because it is simply the healthiest alternative for your dog. Ground from the chia seed, chia flour is packed with protein and loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and healthful antioxidants.
Chia is a recognized source of calcium, manganese, and phosphorus - all important for healthy teeth and bones. Chia has also been shown to have a stabalizing effect on blood sugar and fights insulin resistance which can help lower belly fat. It truly is a 'superfood' and it is the base ingredient in all of our treats.
We use only organic meats in our gourmet dog treats, and for very good reasons. Organic meats contain no additives, no growth hormones, and no antibiotics. Animals raised for the purpose of providing organic meat are not allowed to eat foods which have ben treated with herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, or radition, nor can thier feed contain additives, perservatives, or GMOs.
In addition, orgaic meats contain a higher percentage of omega-3 fatty acids which research has shown to reduce the probability of arthritis, cancer, depression, heart attacks, and strokes.
Brown rice is a whole grain which is high in fiber and a great source of manganese, brown rice also offers a source for magnesium and selenium. Brown rice is rich in antioxidants, promotes weight loss, and helps to stabilize blood sugar levels. Dogs, like humans, can reduce several health risks when their diet includes whole grains. Dogs can have reduced risks of obesity, kidney disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, and some cancers. Whole grains are an excellent source of insoluble fiber and helps to keep blood sugar levels normal and steady.
Why not white rice?
The process that converts brown rice into white rice destroys 67% of the vitamin B3, 80% of the vitamin B1, 90% of the vitamin B6, half of the manganese, half of the phosphorus, and 60% of the iron found in brown rice. Need we say more?
As is true of all of ingredients used in the making of SavvyBeast® gourmet dog treats, we want to ensure only natural processes were involved in thier production.
We use only organic chicken and vegetable broths to add flavor and moisture to our extrordinary treats, ensuring that your best friend gets a wholly natural treat with absolutely no unexpected, or unnecessary ingredients.
Sweet Potatoes are another one of nature's superfoods. An excellent source of vitamins B6, C, and D, sweet potatoes help promote healthy teeth, bones, and skin while accelerating your dog's ability to heal and reducing the risk of degenerative diseases. They are also essential to helping your dog manage stress.
Sweet potatoes contain iron, magnesium, and potassium - all of which provide a number of health benefits for your dog including healthy blood, muscle, and nerve functioning. Their slow-release, natural sugars provide a balanced and regular source of energy, and they are high in carotenoids like beta carotene which helps strengthen eyesight and boosts immunity.
Polyunsaturated fats, like those in grapeseed oil are very healthy for both you and your dog. Many scientists consider them the healthiest of all because they contain omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, which lower “bad” cholesterol, increase “good” cholesterol, and may decrease risk for type 2 diabetes.
Coconut is another food considered by many to be a superfood and it delivers a number of heath benefits for your pet. Coconut oil helps promote heathier skin and coat, reduces sucepibility to viruses, bacterial infection, and fungi and can increase energy expenditure, helping your pet burn more fat.
Gum Arabic is a natural gum made of the hardened sap of two species of the acacia tree. Acacia gum has been found to be successful in the treatment of various kidney diseases such as chronic renal failure.
Gum acacia is also used as an antiseptic for healing wounds as well as an effective cure for sore throats, stomach ailments and eye problems. The natural gum boosts the presence of probiotic bacteria in the body and eliminates the presence of cancer causing pathogens in the intestine.
As is the case with commercially grown produce, commercially grown herbs are often subject to pesticides and other chemical contaminants. In addition, manufacturing processes for conventional herbs often include chemical, or irradiant sterilization practices which can both reduce health benefits and increase health risks.
At SavvyBeast® we only use organic oregano, parsley, and rosemary in our treats, ensuring that your dog's treats are healthy, flavorful, and chemical-free.
A recent study by the Environmental Working Group found that roughly 85% of the population was using tap water laced with over 300 contaminants, many with unknown long-term effects and more than half of which are not regulated by the EPA. Believe it or not, government standards for bottled water are no better.
We use only filtered water to ensure that the water being used in the production of our gourmet treats is virtually contaminate and chemical-free.
